Empire Buiding Method:
- We don’t simply pave over the problem. We remove the existing surface down 10– 12 inches for driveways and 8 – 10 inches for walkways, pool decks, patios removing all the roots and bad soil.
Then we compact the dirt and lay a thick fiberglass fabric which will stay between the dirt and your flexible base rock aggregate foundation. This fabric prevents roots and weeds from growing back. It provdes more durability and flexibility to your foundation by resolving most soil poor quality or problems.
- We install 7 - 9 inches of crushed base rock aggregate on driveways and 5 - 7 inches on patios, pool deck and walkways. ( base rock class II rec. )
- After the base rock is placed, we set the final grade and compact it with a 4000 pound diesel power roller ( the same machine is used to pave residential streets ). This is the most important part of the project. It will keep it from fail and sink, for patios we use a tamper next we add a 3/4 to 1 inches layer of sharp-angled bedding sand.
- We then hand place each individual paver stone into the bedded sand, to ensure a perfect fit.
- For driveways, we also reinforce the entire border with 3/8 inch rebar for extra strength. The border pavers are set in the wet concrete to give them extra strength and to keep them from shifting.
- A layer of sand is swept over the paving stones. Then we pass the plate vibrator over the surface, forcing the sand into the joints from the top. This completes the permanent interlocking process, locking them into place.
